Sandy Thibeault

It was over twenty years ago when Sandy decided to take a Renaissance painting class at Massachusetts College of Art. She quickly developed a passion for the Egg Tempera process. It became her focus and taught it in her high school classes. While very versatile in its application, the Egg Tempera medium is more like drawing with a brush and allows Sandy to use her affinity for detail. The numerous layers of interacting translucent color thinly applied create a luminosity and rich depth of color.

During Sandy’s career as an art teacher she taught a variety of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional courses and shared her love of art making with students in all grades through college and adult education. Sandy’s breadth of eclectic art making developed from her immeasurable curiosity and from the varying needs of her schools. Up until her retirement in June 2011, she was employed at Dover Sherborn High School in Massachusetts where she was the Living, Fine & Technical Arts Department Chair. She now relishes the opportunity to focus exclusively on her own work.

Sandy’s love of travel has allowed her to visit five continents. Some of her artwork is inspired by the accrued photographic imagery collected along the way. Her undergraduate education as an illustrator feeds her penchant for the realism illustrated in her Egg Tempera paintings.

Sandy received her Master of Education from Leslie College & University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Massachusetts College of Art. She participated in post-graduate study at the University of Connecticut and Harvard University and has also studied art history and painting throughout Italy.

Sandy has been the recipient of many grants, has won a number of awards for costume design, painting and photography, and received First Place from the WCVB-TV New England Illustration competition. Her woodworking, photographs, paintings and felted pieces are in private collections in the United States and China.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Sandy and her husband, Al, moved to North Carolina in 2012.

Sandy is represented by the Andre Christine Gallery, 148 Ervin Road, Mooresville, NC 28117.
