Carol Ann Whitmore-Herring

Carol Ann Rowzie Whitmore-Herring has been painting commissioned portraits since 1980. Working in a variety of media, but primarily watercolor, her portraits are representational, but impressionistic in brush and color handling. When not convenient for the subject to have many sittings, she works from her own photos of the subject.

A native of Amissville, Virginia, she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from JMU, with post-graduate art classes there and at VCU. Subsequently in class and seminar, she studied portraits with Fran Gayle of Richmond, VA, John Howard Sanden, Don Andrews, general painting with NC artists, Noyes Capehart Long and the late John Brady. Recently she has taken workshops with Elissa Gore, Betty Hendrix, Freda Lee-McCann, Leslie Frontz, and figure painting with Catherine Nash and Charles Reid.

After teaching high school art in Front Royal, VA, she has taught Continuing Education Art Students at Mitchell Community College, Statesville, NC; at the Florence Thomas Art School, Glendale Springs, NC; Workshop classes at the Mooresville Visual Arts Depot and at other area and regional workshops. Private instruction is available at her "Trinitykeep Studio."

Art memberships: Artist Guild of Statesville; Mooresville Arts; Watercolor Society of NC; member and 2014 president of the Blue Ridge Art Clan of Ashe County, NC.

She is a former Workshop Programmer for the Florence Thomas Art School, West Jefferson, NC, and a former Board Member of the School.

Carol Ann is married to professional portrait painter, Ralph A. Herring, Jr. They reside in Statesville, NC, where they share a painting studio.
