Is It Make Believe
I was born in Russia and liked to draw pictures from my childhood. In 2005 I moved to United States for a better life. My transition between two countries was not simple. I was happy to find more opportunities for education, work, and expression of myself at my new home America. The difference in culture, traditions, language, and style of life affected my paintings. I see everything in my past in black and white, and my present is colored with bright colors, the colors of new vision of this word, happiness , curiousity, and hope. This contrast inside me I brought to the most of my paintings to show my doubled vision of difference from past and present. I paint oil on canvas, and use the assymetric balance to make my pictures look like a view from the window. As artist I want to explain: “I am a story teller, I invite you to look out of the window of your soul and see how beautiful the word around is.”
When I first came to North Carolina and saw how Crepe Myrtle trees are blooming among the streets, I fell in love with this state instantly. The unity of the ocean, cities , and mountains filled my heart with many passions.. Those passions are: small country roads with farms and animals, the beauty of big cities architecture, and emerald waves at the ocean. I brought those small passions to my art, and placed them on canvas.
Marcia M. Makl became active in the local ceramics community when she discovered the rich history and number of artists in the area. With classes at Clayworks and the Cornelius Arts Center, she found an artistic outlet to balance her highly technical professional career.
Fascinated by trompe l'oeil pottery sculptures her ceramic projects focus on hand-built sculptures and functional vessels. Recent work includes creating ceramic purses, shoes, hats, dress forms, cameras, and radios. These sculptural pieces reflect styles of the 1930’s to the 60’s and are transformed into vases, boxes, holders, and banks. Marcia’s work brings a smile to anyone who sees them as they reflect her humor and ability to transform recognized shapes into ceramic art.

PK is an artist and photographer living in Davidson, NC. She grew up in the country in Western New York. In 1979 she moved to Charlotte, NC and was immediately comfortable in her new city. She has worked with photography for nearly 50 years from the analog darkroom years into the digital age. PK has traveled extensively from Alaska to the four corners of the USA. As well as the Mayan Temples in Mexico, Paris, London, Scotland and Russia. Some of her favorite artists are painters. She considers her work to be a mix of Romantic Impressionist oil painter JMW Turner and surrealist photographer Jerry Uelsmann.
PK’s art is influenced by the nature surrounding her. Trees are the air purifiers for planet earth. In doing so, they produce the oxygen we need while withdrawing CO2 from the atmosphere. For information about purchasing trees to absorb CO2 year-round contact www.TheTreeCenter.com or your local nursery..
