Intro to Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop

One-Day Workshop


Description: This hands-on workshop is an introduction to the photo editing process for raw images. 


Students will learn the basis for using Raw images as versus to JPEG images and the definition of such terms as:

  1. Dynamic Range
  2. White Balance
  3. Histogram
  4. Texture
  5. Clarity
  6. Dehaze
  7. Sharpness
  8. Noise
  9. Dodging and Burning
  10. Cropping formats


Students will perform the following tasks:

Using a student or instructor provided raw image file, the student will:

  • edit the file for exposure and contrast
  • edit the file for white balance
  • edit the file black and white point, and highlights and shadows


Students will edit the file, so the dynamic range remains in the limits of the Histogram.

  • edit the file by cropping with different image formats, such as, 3 by 2, 4 by 5, 16 by 9, and 1 by 1
  • edit the file by using the spot healing brush and the clone tool
  • edit the file using several adjustment layers, such as, brightness and contrast, levels, curves, and gradient
  • edit the file using local adjustments like dodging and burning
  • edit the file by applying sharpening and denoise tools

Meet your Instructor - Eric Notheisen

About Eric

Eric Notheisen has been involved with Photography since the mid-1970s. He started

out shooting images while in the US Air Force stations in Korea. He got into medium

format while stationed in the Netherlands. Since 2000 he has been shooting digital

images using several different camera systems. His current focus revolves around

waterfalls and grist mills. He competes in international exhibitions on a regular basis.


Eric is currently the President of the Charlotte Camera Club. He is also Director of

the PSA Nature Division Interclub Competition.


Education Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • Registrants will receive 100% refund for classes or workshops that are cancelled by Mooresville Arts. Refunds will be processed to the original credit card used during registrations.
  • Registrants who cancel for any reason after registering and prior to 72 hours of the beginning of a class or workshop will receive a refund to the original credit card used during registration minus a 20% administrative fee.
  • Cancellations 72 hours before a class or workshop begins will not receive a refund; registration fees will be considered as a donation to Mooresville Arts.
