Ah ra Cho is an artist based in North Carolina, whose work explores the metaphysical nature of light and the unseen forces that shape our reality.
Growing up in a Christian household with a pastor father, she developed an early fascination with the invisible aspects of existence, a theme central to her artistic practice.
Her formal journey began at Hongik University in South Korea, where she studied Asian painting, honing her skills in traditional techniques while developing an interest in metaphysical concepts. She then pursued an MA at the University of Arts London, where her exploration of the Void and the unseen deepened, merging Asian philosophy with her Christian faith.
Her body of work spans abstract painting and immersive installations, often using light as a metaphor for the intangible. By manipulating materials like silk, cotton, and raw canvas and creating sensory experiences within her installations, she invites viewers to engage with the unseen forces that influence their internal and external worlds.
In addition to her studio practice, she also creates live worship paintings during church services. She leads workshops that guide participants in exploring light, faith, and the metaphysical through artistic expression. Her work has been exhibited in Korea, London, and the USA, reflecting an international trajectory. Now in the USA, she continues to push the boundaries of her art with exhibitions that emphasize her interest in light and the metaphysical.
She continues to create pieces encouraging viewers to reflect on their role as receivers and reflectors of light, bridging the visible and invisible worlds. Her art invites contemplation, offering a space where the physical and spiritual intersect.
