Description: Discover fun and easy ways of drawing faces. Learn how to create beautiful and expressive portraits of you and your friends. Have fun drawing both cartoon and realistic faces.
We will explore ways of drawing individual facial features and then bringing them together into a pleasing portrait that students can be proud of. We will also learn about skin tones and using value to create realistic and dramatic expressions.
A variety of materials will be used to bring portraits to life; students will create 1-2 portraits per day.

Description: Discover the ancient Japanese art of paper folding called origami. We will be learning basic folds and ways of turning paper into fun animals and familiar objects. If you have never experienced the amazing art of origami, this will make a great start to your journey.
We will explore the history of origami and learn about Japanese culture. We will learn to create at least two origami during each class. Students will also be given opportunities for creating their own origami that they may teach to others.
Projects will include trying different types of paper, decorate your origami and creating backgrounds for them. Students will also view videos of origami masters and their creations and will be able to construct at least four origami creations from memory by the end of the week.

Description: Travel back in time to discover Australian art practices that have existed for many years. Students will be exploring art, art history, and historical information from Australia, relating to the indigenous peoples of Australia or their languages. Printmaking, painting, and creating artwork while using various tools, techniques, and traditional ideas to explore original Australian practices to create personal art pieces.
Projects: Aboriginal Dot Art, Printmaking Collagraph, Australian Bottlebrush Flowers, X-Ray painting of kangaroos.

Instructor: Edelweiss Vogel
Description: Splatter, swirl, splash, glaze, smudge, paint and draw your way through history’s greatest artists and movements.
This workshop will introduce great art movements such as Cubism, Expressionism, Precisionism, Abstract, Contemporary and Pop Art. You will discover fun facts about the “Masters” along the way and become a mini master!
The week-long session includes:
Students learn the creative process and develop skills and techniques while learning about the masters. All artwork will be ready to take home at the end of the week.

Description: Join us for an exciting week of art based on a chosen Color of the Day. We will create a daily color project and use each color to paint an individual week-long piece of art.
Students will learn basic color theory and what colors symbolize. We will use many different art mediums and create 6 projects to enjoy at home.

Description: During this workshop students will work with everyday "found" materials (wire hangers, nylon hose, woodblock, acrylic paint, etc.) to create a mixed media sculptural artwork. They will create a non-objective 3-D piece using different angles and shapes to construct cultural, cartoon, animal, or self-portrait masks.
Students will experience the entire process from creating an armature and a canvas to transforming a 2-D design into a 3-D format. They will learn about color theory:

Every student will take home a finished piece to display and enjoy.

Description: Students will be traveling through Africa by creating art from different towns and cities in Africa. Each day students will make a new project by touring and learning a new trade of the "city of the day" and make their own inspired version.

Ashley Bell is a 1985 graduate of East Carolina University having majored in Art Education (K-12), with a minor in painting. She has taught all age levels of Art in various public schools in Iredell County, as well as many years of private lessons and summer camps.
Upon retiring in 2019, after 32 years of service, she has been painting for pleasure and commission work, as well as teaching continuing education painting classes at Mitchell Community College.
Corabelle Brindle is an Art Educator with the Iredell-Statesville School System. She holds a BA in Art from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a K-12 Licensure and a Concentration in Ceramics.
She loves all forms of art and has as a passion for teaching art to young minds and creating an "outlet" for youth. While at college, she completed classes in all art forms and explored techniques utilizing various mediums.
Corabelle believes art is an influential form for people to take time for themselves, discover, and have fun! "When young people discover what their own two hands can make it opens new worlds and possibilities for them to venture; that's why I love teaching art!"
Brenda has been a member and volunteer at Mooresville Arts for 7 years. She is also an artist. Her artwork consists of watercolor and acrylic paintings. She enjoys painting flowers, nature scenes and abstract in both watercolor and acrylic.
Brenda received a BS in Child Development and Family Studies and a BA in Interior Architecture, from UNC-Greensboro. Her background includes teaching pre-school classes and working with children of all ages.
She is excited to share her passion of art with the summer teen workshops.

Sarah Kadlecik graduated from Pine Lake Preparatory in 2022 with honors and was an active member of the National Art Honor Society. She has been a volunteer at Mooresville Arts for several years has participated in the Youth Art Show. She has been a junior camp counselor and is looking forward to the Summer Art Academy where she can share her love for art! Sarah is currently a student at Appalachian State University.
Ian is an experienced art instructor with over twenty years of professional teaching experience. His goal as a teacher is to help students discover a passion for expressing themselves as individuals.
He is a self-taught artist originally from the Adirondack Mountain area of upstate New York. Ian also enjoys playing and teaching guitar lessons. He lives in Denver, NC with his son and two fluffy cats.
Amy-Jane Reiss has been part of the creative process since her youth, growing up in NJ. From taking art classes at the Montclair Art Museum to ultimately Graduating from the prestigious Pratt Institute of Arts, art has always been her passion.
Amy-Jane has done freelance illustration and was the creative director of a NY advertising agency’s to having her own successful marketing company handling corporate branding in addition to teaching small
business owners how to market their companies. Creativity has been her driving force.
While raising her children she transitioned to providing fundraising materials, from logos and invitations to programs, and collateral material. Amy-Jane then began teaching Art on both the high school and the middle school level for 15 years in both Florida and North Carolina. She inspired students to develop their creative potential and guided
them to win many awards along the way.
She has also spent her personal time painting, working in pastels and sculpting. Showing her work in multiple venues both in Florida and North Carolina. Amy-Jane has always kept her hand in the fine arts
world.
Presently having retired from teaching, she is now focusing primarily on fine arts.
Edelweiss Vogel, a visual artist, designer, and educator grew up in the Philippines and
moved to the US when she was 18. Edelweiss teaches visual art at The
Brawley IB World School in Mooresville.
She was selected for the ArtPop Street
Gallery Class of 2022 Cities Programs and her artwork was featured on billboards in the Philippines, across Charlotte, and the surrounding region for one year.
Edelweiss holds a BFA degree in studio arts with a concentration in illustration and K-12 Art Education Graduate Certificate. She has an upcoming show at the Charlotte Museum of History in May and a solo show next month at the lobby of Catalyst in uptown Charlotte.
Her background includes patent drawing, isometric and orthographic view construction, drafting/technical illustration, storyboarding, children’s books, concept art, and other work in visual communication. In her spare time, she enjoys making avant-garde dresses from unconventional and recycled/collected materials for fashion shows. Her favorite projects for the fashion show were at the 2019 Paris Fashion Week in Paris. She finds inspiration in many things, from stylistic comic book art to the techniques of the past, like the Expressionist, Avant-Garde, and Art Deco styles.
